It's a new day all round...

"When will the veil be lifted that casts so black a night over the universe?" - Racine

It was tempting, last night watching the election count for Mayor of London, and listening to Ken Livingstone deliver his polite and wistful valedictory to the assembled mass, to think, "Here's a decent chap, one who loved his city and despite how I have disagreed with his views or policies, he's been a credit to London and we're a better city for it."

But I am jerked back to reality quickly when I see this on the BBC website. How poignant that on the day that Ken give's his position over to Boris Johnson, Cuban's are from this day allowed to own personal computers. I can't believe I am writing these words on the 3rd day of May, 2008. Last month they got to have mobile fucking phones and DVD players. This month computers. Whatever next?! Ain't it grand. There is, however, one tiny little detail that bears mentioning. It is still illegal in Cuba to have internet access. You can have a computer, but don't think about jacking in to the net, mate. Still, it's a step.

In November of 2006, this odious little tosser went to Cuba in a show of solidarity with the late Fidel Castro and Hugo Chavez, presumably to tell the Cubans how great they have it. Well, now maybe they have a chance.

I know, I know, there are so many reasons this vile little man should be doing the Mussolini waltz, and just having him out of office should be reward enough...but there is some poignancy in the fact that on the day he loses the one thing that means the most to him, a nation of people in whose subjugation he is complicit gain something that will in time be a key factor in their future and their freedom.

Fuck off, Ken.
