It's a new day all round...

"When will the veil be lifted that casts so black a night over the universe?" - Racine

It was tempting, last night watching the election count for Mayor of London, and listening to Ken Livingstone deliver his polite and wistful valedictory to the assembled mass, to think, "Here's a decent chap, one who loved his city and despite how I have disagreed with his views or policies, he's been a credit to London and we're a better city for it."

But I am jerked back to reality quickly when I see this on the BBC website. How poignant that on the day that Ken give's his position over to Boris Johnson, Cuban's are from this day allowed to own personal computers. I can't believe I am writing these words on the 3rd day of May, 2008. Last month they got to have mobile fucking phones and DVD players. This month computers. Whatever next?! Ain't it grand. There is, however, one tiny little detail that bears mentioning. It is still illegal in Cuba to have internet access. You can have a computer, but don't think about jacking in to the net, mate. Still, it's a step.

In November of 2006, this odious little tosser went to Cuba in a show of solidarity with the late Fidel Castro and Hugo Chavez, presumably to tell the Cubans how great they have it. Well, now maybe they have a chance.

I know, I know, there are so many reasons this vile little man should be doing the Mussolini waltz, and just having him out of office should be reward enough...but there is some poignancy in the fact that on the day he loses the one thing that means the most to him, a nation of people in whose subjugation he is complicit gain something that will in time be a key factor in their future and their freedom.

Fuck off, Ken.

My reaction to the election results...

...can best be summed up by Karl Urban's immortal line from Lord of the Rings...

"Drive them to the river!!!"

Rubbish, indeed...

It appears that on the very day that the shower that is our Labour government was being rubbished by the voters from one end of the country to the other, they were in their own inimitable way trying to slide one by....announcing quietly that the number of councils moving to bi-weekly rubbish collection has risen to 169, affecting 20 million taxpayers.

The councils themselves say it is the government that is bullying them to force the changes through. Their dirty little secret is that it is European Union legislation that requires this action in the face of stiff fines that will be levied from 2010.

Better management of our rubbish is the answer, we are told. Recycle, recycle recycle!!!

Wednesday last I stood in my first floor bedroom window at 6.45 am and watched as the bin men came along, as they do. Pulling the wheelie bins onto the kerbside and setting the two recycling bins (full, I will have you know) next to them. As the lorry approached, the bin man managing the process flipped open the wheelie bin lid and emptied both recycling containers in with the rubbish. He then set the bin onto the lifting arms of the lorry and emptied the whole lot.

I have rung the council twice asking for an explanation. I am told someone will be getting back to me. After the results of the council elections are tallied I assume.

Errr, what's this then??

Global warming has come to a halt (eh, we knew that) according to a new study published in scientific journal Nature. And it's based on observable evidence - evidence that shows this cooling is part of a natural cycle of warming and cooling is likely to last until 2015. And as always, they are on top of it at EU Referendum....

Will it be on pay-per-view?

The Indonesian office of a global concern informs us that the "Jakarta office will be closed on Thursday & Friday (May 1&2) for Ascension of Jesus Christ."

We are hoping for live coverage on all major channels!

Last one out...

WPP is the second largest marketing communications services company in the world. It owns advertising giants J Walter Thompson, Ogilvy & Mather, Grey and hundreds of other companies. As a holding company, WPP is a relatively small outfit just behind Berkeley Square, though the companies it owns employ tens of thousands globally. Nevertheless, the announcement by high profile CEO Sir Martin Sorrell that he is considering a move to tax-friendly Ireland should send a chill up someone's spine in Downing Street....well, if they could find somebody with one that is.

(Then again, there's a little matter of 'tax harmonisation' that will eventually catch up with the Irish, so Sir Martin might want to rent rather than buy.)

Interestingly, Gordon Brown's new chief marketing officer and chief of staff, colon-dweller Stephen Carter, is an alumnus of WPP-owned J Walter Thompson where he distinguished himself by losing an embarrassing string of high-profile clients as MD, before leaving to join Thompson client ntl. Carter deftly guided ntl into record-setting bankruptcy then set his sights on the public sector, overseeing Ofcom while the industry he regulated ripped off the public with orgiastic abandon.

Fitting then, that he should find himself where he does. Maybe he can catch up with his old boss sometime soon....

"There, I said it..."

The BBC reports that Bolivian homunculus Evo Morales has finally said it. What the global warmists have avoided saying all along. What the bottom line is on all the enviro-freakery. And it is, in sum total, this:

Opening a UN forum on the global impact of climate change on indigenous peoples, Mr Morales said that capitalism should be scrapped if the planet is to be saved from the effects of climate change.

"If we want to save our planet earth, we have a duty to put an end to the capitalist system," he said.
Were he not such an insignificant half-wit, who mainly serves as Hugo Chavez's pool boy in his function as Bolivian president, someone somewhere would probably be a bit peeved that the cat was let so openly out of the bag.
